Charles E. Flowers is an advocate for children who believes everyone involved with schools must work together to ensure excellence in teaching and learning because our children deserve no less. His experiences in education have been wide and diverse: he has worked in a traditional public school district, a public charter school, and worked with non-profit organizations gaining a breadth of experience from his involvement with many multi-cultural and socio-economic groups. He has almost a decade of service as an elementary classroom teacher and he has supported learners of all ages as a university research consultant, an assistant educational director, a literacy coach, and Dean of Students.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education from Tennessee State University. While teaching, he earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. His passion for teaching reading and writing to struggling students led him to pursue an additional Master’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Reading Leadership from Lipscomb University.
An engaging writer, presenter, and educator, he has written for The Reading Teacher and The National Association of Young Children, he has presented on instructional strategies in reading and reading leadership at regional and national conferences, and he is pursuing National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in Reading and Language Arts.
